Join the Alwoodley Low-Carbon Homes Club!
In Alwoodley, our homes are responsible for 27% of our carbon footprint, each of us emitting an averaging 3.4 t CO2e from our home energy use per year. This is among the highest emission rates from homes in the city. Working together to reduce these emissions can make a meaningful difference to the city's drive to zero carbon. Are you interested in doing what you can to reduce the carbon footprint of your home? Are you keen to undertake eco-positive home refurbishment, and to be able to have a community of like-minded Alwoodley residents to support your journey?

Thermal Imaging Camera
Our Low Carbon Homes Club now has a Thermal Imaging Camera to lend out. There is a suggested donation of £5 to borrow it for a week and it connects to your smart phone. It will help you identify the cold spots in your home, showing you where you are losing heat fastest. This is useful information when thinking about what actions to take to make your home more comfortable and save you money. Please sign up here to get on the waiting list for October:

Colin Munro will be the speaker at our July meeting. Colin has a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Urban Development from Malmo University, Sweden, and is a qualified Retrofit Coordinator. He is a Director of Wrapt Homes, a Leeds based business focused on making whole house energy upgrades easy. Wrapt is currently delivering projects across the region including energy efficient show homes for York City Council. Colin is joining us to illustrate what someone who is passionate about reducing the carbon footprint of their home might do. This meeting really is for you if you want to learn about some of the more extensive retrofit options. It might inform the very next steps you take or provide a template for longer term planning.
1st May 2024. Buckstones Eco-Refurbishment Neighbour to Neighbour Info Share. Local resident, Sarann, has had a home assessment and has undertaken work to reduce her home's carbon footprint. At this informal gathering, Sarann will share what she learned from the report and what home improvements she had done (including advice on materials and tradespeople). This will be particularly useful for people who live in semis in the Buckstones area (or similar housing stock elsewhere). We'll also share info on locan and national initiatives to help you make these changes to your home.
